School of Galilee
One of the core programs supported by the Patricia Sullivan Haitian Outreach Foundation is the School of Galilee in Mirebelais, Haiti. The school was started in September, 2005 by Pastor Franck Marcelin of the Voice of Victory Church in Domond, Haiti. Currently, the School of Galilee has 300 students and despite its humble appearance, the school was recently recognized by the Government of Haiti for its excellent performance.

Rice and beans serves as a great source of protein for learning and growth. The children receive a small piece of bread every morning from a contributor to the school. This
was a special occasion to have the Bon Secours College of Nursing students
and faculty serve lunch to the students in March 2010.

This is the school before renovation. Since then, we have finished the walls all the way to the ceiling and have added a more stable roof.

The classrooms at the present time are separated by chalkboards with four classrooms serving an enrollment of 300 students for the 2010-2011 school years. Galilee has taken in over 100 refugees from Port au Prince since the earthquake per the government’s request.
Outside of this school house there is a watering hole which consists of a one inch PVC pipe that sticks up out of the earth. Since this site is controlled by the city of Mirebalais, water only flows here three days per week. One of our next projects when we travel to Haiti in January is to make a more permanent watering site with concrete bricks, and a spring loaded cut off valve to increase durability and pour a concrete base for added support.
As of November 2010, approximately 90% of the school is complete. New benches were donated by a supporter in Wisconsin to seat the enrolled 300 students. A gate door is needed for the entrance of the school, a properly placed flag pole in concrete, four wall dividers in between classrooms, and smooth concrete needs to be applied to the walls of the school and painted.
If you are interested in supporting a child at the School of Galilee, please contact us. Your donation of $120 per year provides the children’s uniforms, education books, fresh water, paper, pencils and funds the teacher’s salaries.
